Fauré, GabrielDollySuite op. 56
(original for piano four hands)
for 2 violins, viola and violoncello
Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) composed this little suite for piano four hands between the years 1893 and 1896 for Hélène, the daughter of Emma Bardac, a singer friend of Fauré. The little child was called "Dolly" (little doll) because of her delicate figure. Fauré wrote the individual movements, which reflect experiences from the child's world, for birthdays or New Years.
Arranged for string quartet by Claus-D. Ludwig
