Guise Jean François de
Trio for clarinet in Bb, bassoon and piano
op. 25, No. 3 (2004)

In 2004, Jean François de Guise presented the "Trio (2004) for clarinet, bassoon and piano, op.25, No.3".

The composer begins to develop the sombre motifs in an almost traditional manner.

Tonal and dynamic outbursts, especially by the piano, make this trio, in which the themes are isolated and subjected to rhythmic stretching, interesting and unpredictable. Everything seems very impulsive and sometimes arbitrary. In its entirety, however, one realizes that Jean François de Guise proceeds according to plan and leaves nothing to chance, even at the end. The clarinet and bassoon actually bring the work to a close, with the bassoon abruptly interrupting the final line, similar to that of the piano at the beginning, with two short piano notes. Only after a caesura planned by the composer does the piano set the real final point, deep, warm and demonically quiet.
