Albéniz, Isaac
Sevilla Asturias 2 piano pieces
from Opus 47 (1886) for 2 violins, viola and violoncello
Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909) was considered a child prodigy at the beginning of his pianistic career. After an adventurous, restless life, he finally settled in Paris. A co-founder of a Spanish national style, his music combines folkloric elements with virtuoso piano writing. In particular, the two better-known piano cycles Suite espagnole (Opus 47) and España (Opus 165) from 1890 show Albéniz's love for his homeland in the following character pieces:
Opus 47: Granada (Serenata), Cataluña (Curranda), Seville (Sevillana), Cadiz (Saeta), Asturias (Leyenda), Aragón (Fantasia), Castilla (Seguidillas), Cuba (Notturno).
Opus 165: Prélude, Tango, Malagueña, Serenata, Capricho Catalán, Zortzico
Many of his pieces were transcribed for guitar during his lifetime until today.
For the present arrangement the movements Sevilla and Asturias were chosen.
