In memory of his teacher Guiseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini wrote a small „Requiem” for viola, choir and organ in 1905. On the occasion of the Puccini year 2024, Franz Kreuzlinger wrote a version in which the solo viola part becomes a solo tenor part. The choir can be performed originally on the organ or by a string orchestra. At the same time, a purely instrumental version was created for solo cello or solo viola and strings, which turns the choral work into an impressive instrumental meditation.
