Guise Jean François de
Trois Feux de Saint-Elme pour Orgue
Op. 12 No.1

In 1999 Jean François de Guise composed three light meditations, which not only describe the natural phenomenon with "Trois Feux de Saint-Elme".
If one dives into the music, one gets the feeling that must arise when one sees the luminescent images that illuminate the Nordic sky in a ghostly way.
If one then knows that these pieces were written for a picture devotion, which took place on Christmas Eve in the night mass, one can guess which unheard-of effect was unfolded by this music. But even without this background knowledge, Jean François de Guise's compositions do not fail to make an impact.
The minimalist registration marked in the volume is meant to represent an idea and not to be binding. Soft, warm, flowing sounds want to be achieved. Never should a superficial sounding arise. The individual structures in the work must appear, but they must never become superficial.
If one looks at the pieces further, one notices that they are superficially quite simply structured, but, the use of the chords and the "double pedal" clearly indicate that these are not pieces for beginners.
The pitfalls here are truly in the details.
In addition to some technical playing challenges, everything must remain transcendent, which is probably the greatest difficulty in performance.
