Guise Jean François de
String Quartet No. 5 (2012)
Op. 36, No. 5

In this string quartet, Jean François de Guise strikes a somewhat calmer note than in his fourth.
One of his trademarks is that he immediately "disturbs" the entrance motif, which is also distributed to the other instruments, by immediately emitting another motif that also runs through the entire composition.
The subtitle “permutations” (Latin permutare, to swap) has its origin, because it describes the principle and the structure of the work perfectly.
Jean François de Guise weaves sound patterns into scraps of thought that, similar to a conversation, condition and fuel one another.
The composer lets his original idea appear sonorous and thwarted by the other instruments. He quasi wanders from the composed thought and remembers the starting point again.
With this, Jean François de Guise creates a kind of silence that you might find in a busy city park, a restless calm.
