Debussy, Claude
Deux Arabesques (around 1890)
Danse bohémienne (1880)
for 2 violins, viola and violoncello
After the original piano version arranged for string quartet by Claus-D. Ludwig
Claude Debussy (1862-1918) composed the Deux Arabesques for piano around the year 1890. They can be counted among his best-known and most popular works and have become indispensable for piano students. Numerous arrangements of these Arabesques have already been compiled for a variety of instrumental ensembles and orchestra scorings.
The piano piece Danse bohémienne dating from 1880 is Debussy’s very first published work, but never achieved a similar level of recognition as the two Arabesques.
Both Arabesque I and Danse bohémienne have been transposed for the current arrangement from string quartet for technical reasons.
