Opus 67 wurde von Onslow ausdrücklich als Kontrabass-Quintett komponiert. Dies geht aus einem Brief (Bellerive 18.X.1843) an einen Baron in Paris hervor, in dem Onslow schreibt: "...J´ai cependant terminé mon quintette à Contrebasse à quatre cordes & si je ne me fais pas l´illusion assez familière aux auteurs sur le retour, je le regarde comme un des mes ouvrages le plus complets."
