The so-called "Sicilian Ave Maria" was created in a cycle of Italian Christmas carols. In a moderate modern tone, the impressive text of the Ave Maria is contrapuntal over the cantus firmus of the song "O sanctissima" (Eng. "O you cheerful"), which also in the short intermezzo between the two stanzas, as if from a distance, of angels sung sounds.
